I work at harris teeter 'part time' as a cashier. I don't mind the job, the customers are always pretty nice and friendly and cooperative, but I really don't like the management at my store. No matter what i say or do, it's just never good enough for them. I was initally trained to be a cashier, not a uscan cashier. They randomly put me on uscan for an 8 hour shift, when i had absloutely no idea how to even work uscan. They weren't all that cooperative in teaching me either. My co worker told me how to work the computer. No one told me i had to pick up the baskets. No one told me i had to answer the phone if no one was at the desk. I didn't know how to put someone on hold on the phone. No one told me i had to write my name in a binder to show that i was actually here and working on uscan. And when i didn't do any of those things, they yell at me and tell me i'm a bad cashier. and when i ask how to do something they tell me i should know. how should i know if i've never been taught.

Another thing is the hours. They are never consistent. Ever. For example, last week i worked 5 hours, and this week I'm working 17. Next week I'm working 24. I always have to work at different times on different days, the schedule is constantly changing. I hate the on call system also, because im just 16 i don't own a car, so when I'm on call, my entire family is on call too.

I also don't like how they treat the customers like gold, but treat the employees like ***. I recently changed my availability for school, and it was approved by the manager. two weeks later i was scheduled when I wasn't supposed to be. I was told I would have to work the shift, when i had to be at home doing school (i'm homeschooled) I told them sorry, school comes first, and my mom started getting mad at me because the schedule was wrong. not my fault the managers cant get their heads out of their butts for 5 minutes to listen to the associates.
